Preteen to Teen
Preparing YOU For Your Photo Session With Children
Preteen to Teen
The Highlights
The Tricky Part: Motivation
I’d say motivation is the hardest thing at this stage- particularly for pre-teen to teenage boys. Especially when we’re trying to get very loving, connected family photos.
Rewards
The name of this game is REWARDS. INCENTIVES. However you want to phrase it, this is where we’re at. If your child is less internally motivated to get these nice photos, then it’s okay to find an external motivation that will do the job.
Friend Rewards
While your 10 year old may be motivated by the idea of a family outing, your teen may be less so. Consider rewarding your teen with an activity they can do with their friends. Be specific about what your expectations are for them to earn this reward. I love to phrase it so they know they need to help you get the photos YOU are hoping for- not that they just have to show up, but that they need to fully participate in the session.
Snacks
Bring snacks for just before the session, and make sure your child is well fed. Let’s avoid hangry teens! This may sound kind of silly, but a granola bar can go a long way. This applies to teens of both genders. These kids are always hungry!
