Utah Newborn Photographer FAQ

Most families book during the second trimester to ensure availability. Newborn sessions are typically photographed within the first 5–18 days after birth.

While booking early helps ensure that you get a session at a time you’d prefer, it’s not uncommon for people to reach out after baby is born. I’m happy to work you into my schedule if I have availability! Please contact me ASAP and let’s try to get you on my calendar!

I’ve photographed newborn sessions up to 6-7 weeks old. These babies don’t sleep as much, and may need to stay swaddled for the entire session, but we still get absolutely adorable photos! Older babies may get fewer poses (as they take longer to settle) but also tend to give more expressions in each pose, so it all evens out! I don’t photograph babies older than 7 weeks as newborn sessions. At this point we can do a family session instead or wait for sitter sessions when baby is 7-10 months old.

This is probably the biggest worry most parents have. It’s totally fine! Most babies will fall asleep at some point during the session, and if babies take some time to settle down it’s totally fine. As an Utah Newborn Photographer I plan that into the scheduled session time. We can take breaks to feed baby, swaddle, use white noise and soothers. Only 1% of the time do we have to reschedule due to extreme gas/fussiness. We can almost always get great photos if we take our time.

Absolutely! Parents are involved in every one of my sessions. Even parents who start out hesitant about being in photos end up loving the special connection we can capture in these first few weeks with baby. Siblings are included in my standard and deluxe sessions.

For Standard or Deluxe sessions we plan on 2.5 hours in the studio. Depending on the baby, it may be closer to 2 hours or it may take the full time. We plan for that long to include feedings, diaper changes, and soothing baby back to sleep.

If dad and children are involved in the session, they only need to be there for 20-40 minutes and can leave (we recommend siblings do leave) for the rest of the session.

Wrapped Minis last about 45 minutes to an hour.

I love twin sessions! They add such a fun dynamic when we can capture their sweet relationship with one another. I charge one session fee (even though it’s two babies). The only difference is that I’ll bring in an assistant to help with the extra baby (a perk usually reserved for deluxe sessions). The session MAY run a tiny bit longer than usual depending on how we line up feeding each baby, but we can often stay close to that 2-2.5 hour mark.
