Tutorial Tuesday: Easily Hiding Diapers in Newborn Portraits
Today’s Tutorial Tuesday is going to help you solve one of the biggest problems newborn photographers face- and that is… THE DIAPER. To keep it on, or take it off can be a huge dilemma, since we know mom and dad probably won’t love seeing the diaper in photos, and yet we don’t want to have the mess that (nearly always) comes with leaving the diaper off. Today I’m going to help you out with this nifty little trick.
Hiding Diapers in Newborn Portraits Using Baby Spanx!
If you haven’t heard of baby Spanx, they’re basically the tiny version of regular Spanx… those wonderful underwear shapers you put on to slip into that form fitting dress without appearing too bumpy. You can buy them from Number 2 Willow Lane, one of my favorite newborn outfit vendors. You can also find some on Etsy from a few other vendors.
Basically they cover the diaper really nicely, and are much easier to blend in with baby’s skin tone in editing. I throw these babies on EVERY SINGLE newborn I photograph. I like to have mom and dad make sure baby’s diaper is clean right before the session, and then have them put this on baby right over the diaper. It can stay on while baby is wrapped without any issues, and it’s better to try not to mess with baby too much once the session starts.
With No Further Ado, Here’s the Tutorial!
Baby Spanx Hack by Rebecca KayneOther Sessions
I like to hide diapers in other portrait sessions as well, and so I also have these awesome diaper covers for Sitter Sessions or Cake Smash Sessions. Sometimes baby outfits (especially for girls) just don’t cover the diaper well while baby is sitting, and these are just a little bit less distracting than patterned baby diapers.
