What Now?
I find that many new parents KNOW they want beautiful pictures of their newborn baby, they schedule the session, we finish up and they love their photos… and then I always ask them “What Now?” and they really aren’t sure what I mean.
We live in a digital age, which is wonderful. But I believe that sometimes it makes us miss out on that next step of remembering these photos. Sure, Facebook may send you a message 10 years from now with one of your favorite photos from this session. You’ll think “oh my goodness, where have the years gone” and then you’ll move along with your life. Is that really what you’ve put all of the time, money and effort into scheduling newborn portraits for?
What if instead, you choose your favorite portraits from the session, and then you purchase a gorgeous, heirloom quality album so you can look at your pictures whenever you’d like- you select your favorite fabric for the cover, something that will match the color scheme of your home (or a color you just really love). The album sits on your coffee table and your friends and family notice it when they come over, oohing and aahing over how adorable your little one is.
Your baby grows up with a picture book starring him (or her)self, and loves to sit all snuggled up with you under your favorite cozy blanket, asking to look at it just one more time.
Or maybe instead you choose a timeless wood print gallery, hung in your family room where you look at the portraits every day, and your child grows up seeing the love your family has for one another- secure in the knowledge that they hold a prime place in your heart and your home.
when you’re planning your session
Remember to include this very important final step! Take some time to consider what you’d like to do with your portraits, beyond sharing them on your social media. Professional photography is about more than taking pictures you’ll store on your phone and never see again- it’s about creating works of art that you will want to remember and share on a regular basis.
It’s about finding ways to keep these memories for your children to enjoy as they grow, and in a way that they can someday share them with their OWN children.
So take a few minutes, sit down together, and visualize how you’d most love to share your portraits following your session. You can get some ideas of what I have available here in my product catalog. If you need to save a little extra for these luxury items, determine what you’ll need and save a little bit of money each month so you’re ready to purchase your products at your gallery reveal.
I’ve never had a client come back and say they regret spending money on their products… but I’ve had many say they wish they had albums like this for all of their kids.
